Cultured Pearl Necklace

The Cultured Pearl Necklace is the most essential piece of pearl jewelry that a woman could own.  Throughout history, the pearl necklace has been the one piece of jewelry that has most adorned women’s necklines.  Because the cultured pearl necklace can be made with pearls of any size, shape, color, and quality and combined with gold, silver and/or diamonds, it is also the most versatile jewelry piece.  Women of all ages and backgrounds whether teenagers, mothers, professionals, or celebrities simply adore the luster and inner glow that radiates from a fine pearl necklace.

The cultured pearl necklace is made with pearls from mollusks that are cultivated (cultured) after man inserts an irritant to stimulate pearl growth.  Almost all pearls harvested and sold today are cultured pearls.  Natural pearls which are pearls produced without any human intervention are extremely rare.  Cultured pearls can be from freshwater or saltwater mollusks that produce pearls naturally after nucleation by humans.

The cultured pearl necklace has become synonymous with white Mikimoto Akoya Pearl Necklaces because Mr. Kokichi Mikimoto perfected the pearl cultivation process in Japan where Akoya pearls were primarily grown.  During the last ten years; however, China has become the leading producer of very high quality cultured Freshwater and Akoya pearls that rival Japan’s selection.  As a result, the cultured pearl necklace quality and affordability has increased significantly.
