Mother of Pearl

Mother of Pearl is the iridescent lining or nacre found inside the shell of oysters and mollusks that produce real pearls.  This hard iridescent lining is comprised of minerals (aragonite and conchiolin) secreted inside the shells to protect the pearl producing organisms from foreign bodies or disease.  Mother of Pearl is a naturally made material that comes from the same living creatures that produce freshwater cultured pearls and saltwater cultured pearls.
